Slate is a natural product that was formed millions of years ago.  Slate must still be hand split to reveal its warm earth tones and weathered veining.  Highly skilled craftsman are employed in this process to ensure the finest of quality.  Each slate has its own unique design and as a result, no two pieces are the same.  Used in bungalows, million-dollar homes and commercial buildings nationwide, our beautiful line of natural slate offers elegance at an affordable price.  This natural 

alternative adds noticeable style to both interior and exterior home designs.  Extremely versatile, slate is the natural choice over porcelain tile or ceramic.  Consider slate for entryways, kitchens, fireplace hearths, bathrooms, and patios.  The options are limited only by your imagination.
Slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock that splits into thin, smooth-surfaced layers. Slatestone, or simply slate, is recommended by leading architects, designers and building professionals. The rugged look of slate imparts it a distinct appeal. Slate is easy to clean and requires very little maintenance. Slate also provides high slip resistance and is long lasting. All these factors make it the ideal stone for a number of applications including home interiors and exteriors, roofing, flooring, hearths, fireplaces, wall claddings, landscaping, driveways, patios, windowsills and pools. They are perfect for offices, restaurants and hotels. Slate is also used for engravings, paintings and sculptures. The most common building applications for this material are floor, wall and roof tiles as well as fireplace surrounds. Tiles can be split and cut-to-size with only the natural cleft surface, or manufacturers will add value by calibrating the material to ensure a consistent thickness throughout the piece.



Roofing slate
Natural roofing slate are traditionally produced in the following forms:
Patterns are cut to fixed dimensions of length and width, the width being never less than half the length.
Sized Slates or width randoms are of a stated length but of various widths: the width is never less than half the length. e.g a width random can be consisting of 450x225, 450x250, 450x275, 450x300.etc....

 Randoms are supplied in random lengths and widths, the width never being less than half the length. The roof is covered with diminishing courses.
Randoms are ordered by reference to the maximum and minimum required lengths.
In order to minimise the western labour costs of sorting and holiing slate on site all randoms are pre-holed and sorted to the nearest combination in each wooden crate before shipment.
